At a certain point, in most careers, we can assume, with certainty, that if applying for a new job the recruiter in front of us will be much younger. How do we prepare for an interview with a younger recruiter? Answers to this question were published on the British website Exertus focusing on job offers to applicants of 45 years and over.
1. Show respect
The younger person you will meet at the interview may not be just a recruiter. He or she could be your future boss. Therefore, you should certainly neither show that you are ashamed of your age or that you think your age makes you smarter than the interviewer. Come to the interview with a positive mood and show your interest in accepting the challenge of a new job.
2. Show that you are not behind the times
Be prepared to be asked about your awareness of the latest trends and your interest in further learning. Indicate your willingness to change work habits that may seem outdated. If you have already worked for a younger boss, mention it. Summarize what was most beneficial in this experience to you.
3. Focus on the position being offered
Be careful to limit what you tell about your long career to the information relevant to the position. Emphasize your relevant skills and your enthusiasm for the future, not just for the past. Never preach to the interviewer.
