The LinkedIn social network can be beneficial not only to find a new job but also to enter it. Nicole Williams, LinkedIn's Connection Director, described three tips on how to use LinkedIn to prepare for the first day at a new job on the Business Insider website.
1. Find who works in the department you are entering
LinkedIn can help you find out what are your new colleagues doing, where they worked before and how long they have worked in current company. You can then start conversations with them more easily.
2. Update your profile
Updatethe name of your new position and employer in your LinkedIn profile and briefly describe what you will do. If you don't have a photo in your profile yet, add it. It will make it easier for your new colleagues to get to know you.
3. Watch your competition
When you know what is happening in your industry, new colleagues will see an expert in you. Follow eg. what positions are key employers in your industry opening, who is leaving and who is entering them.
