Many resolutions are made as the new year approaches. Each of us has once resolved to start exercising, to save more money or learn a foreign language. Many people will, however, need to add another resolution to find a job because there are currently more than 508,000 unemployed people in the Czech Republic. The number of people for a vacant position is different in different regions, from 3 people in Prague to 135 in Havlickuv Brod, but also in different industries. On average, however, 13 people are fighting for one position. It is, therefore, important to be well prepared and know all the available resources to find work.
Profesia CZ in cooperation with FOCUS Marketing & Social Research conducted a long-term research on where most people are looking for work. In the target group of the economically active population, the Internet is the most common source for job search. "We have seen an increasing trend of the importance of the Internet in the search of new jobs for several years. In 2009, the Internet has become the most sought after source when it was used by 69% of people and for the first time it overtook the family and friends (66%). In 2012, up to 80% of the economically active population used job boards, corporate career websites, search engines and more recently even social networks like Facebook or LiknedIn," says Kateřina Jaroňová from Profesia CZ.
Czechs traditionally appeal to family and friends (67%) when looking for a new job, but also many companies recruit new employees based on the recommendations of current employees. Employment offices (55%) and employment agencies (32%) are a stable sources, too.
Conversely, there is a downward trend in the field of newspaper job advertising which was used by 63% of the population in April 2008 (more than Internet). In 2012, it was, however, just 46%. Similarly, television and particularly teletext decreased from 4% to 2%.
From 2011, the research has also recorded job fairs (3%) which have the advantage of the first contact with an employer without the stress of an interview.
