Although the unemployment rate in the European Union amounts to 10.7%, there are still about two million unfilled jobs. Therefore, the European Commission has just launched a new portal called EU Skills Panorama which aims to compare the supply and demand for skills on the European labour market. The portal will monitor labour markets in the individual EU countries in the short and medium term and highlight mismatches in required skills. Information on the portal are organized by individual sectors, occupations and countries.
László Andor, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, said that the portal "will ultimately help to direct jobseekers to the most demanded occupations throughout Europe".
As stated in the press release published on the occasion of the launch of the portal, most workers in the EU are nowadays demanded in finance and trade, but in biology, pharmacy, medicine, IT and other technical sectors. The largest mismatch between the supply and demand of skills is in the labour markets in Lithuania, Bulgaria, Belgium, Hungary and Ireland. The smallest mismatch is in Portugal, Denmark and the Netherlands. The Czech Republic is the 12th place.
