Find out what stressors are at your workplace
HR Morning states that first of all you must find out what factors are inducing stress in employees. Then, based on your findings, you must choose the right solution. There are multiple types of stressors, from excessive workload to unhealthy company culture based on competition, unsuitable technological and digital tools, obsolete and non-functional processes, or personal problems of individual workers. If stress is a long-term problem at your company, talk to employees and discover the core of the problem.
Offer employees a more sustainable form of working
Based on the findings learnt in the first step, you should now set up a plan to transform the workplace into a healthy environment. Establish processes and a work routine that are sustainable long term. Of course, occasional fluctuations, crises and times of heightened stress can never be totally eliminated but they should not be a daily occurrence.
Support socialisation of employees and teach them about mental health
Help build strong social and friendly connections between employees, support informal meetings of employees and organise team building events. Set up your workplace so people are not afraid to talk about their feelings, stress and mental state. Be interested in how employees are doing outside work and elaborate a prevention system that will detect overly stressed individuals before they burn out.
Do not be afraid to contact external specialists
The topic of too much stress at the workplace is a serious one. Many managers and HR specialists simply do not have the theoretical and practical knowledge to solve the problem effectively. Do not hesitate to talk to external specialists, such as psychologists, who are able to help you with the problem.
