Training Magazine stresses that LMS are now more than just a simple software for the administration of e-learning courses. Today's corporate education departments use LMS commonly for online trainings and automatic reporting connected to new media and technology.

Thanks to the open source code, LMS will become more accessible to more organizations. There are more and more free LMS solutions on the market, which gives companies the opportunity to create their own software to suit their needs.
Just-in-time learning
The concept of just-in-time learning management systems enables companies to educate their people when and where it is needed. It brings immediate value. If LMS are to keep pace with just-in-time learning, they must be mobile, flexible and practical.
Tracking of training activities
There is a new generation of the SCORM (Shareable Content Object Reference Model) which has so far allowed e-learning courses to be run and tracked in any LMS. It is a technology called Tin Can API that allows you to track virtually anything anywhere within the corporate training activities. Unlike the SCORM model, it does not dictate what you track.
Cloud solutions
Cloud computing, the model of software use and development based on the Internet, has emerged as a cost-effective and flexible way to educate different demographic groups of employees online. Courses posted on the Internet are available to anyone at any time and this trend will continue to grow stronger.
Talent management
Another trend is the use of LMS for talent management. Talent management will reveal gaps in employee knowledge and skills which can then be filled in using the LMS. LMS should also be able to recommend suitable courses and trainings for specific groups of employees.
