How to dress for a job interview (2/2)

In the first part of our article on the appropriate clothes for a job interview, we explained that there is, in fact, no situation where we can dress too nicely. We learned what suit, shirt, tie and shoes men should choose and wear. Now let's focus more on women's clothing and on accessories for both sexes.

Like men, women should not experiment with colors and patterns that are too bold. Dark colors have the most serious impact. You can definitely do nothing wrong by wearing a pant suit or a suit with s knee-length skirt. When wearing a skirt, you should always - regardless of the weather - wear stockings, preferably flesh-colored. Put on dark closed-toe shoes with a lower heel. In colder weather, you can put on boots. Sandals or sports shoes in the summer should, however, be replaced by pumps.

Mini-skirts and low necklines are not appropriate for interviews. First, there are usually women working in HR departments who will not get dazzled by these types of clothes and, second, you will definitely not be the first first to try this type of thing on possible male recruiters. Try to imagine what signals your provocative clothing would send.

Too many accessories may harm you

As far as accessories, both men and women should keep the old saying in mind "less is more". Begin by carefully selecting your perfume. The perfume should be soft that it is barely discernible. Remember that everyone has different tastes, and what smells good to you could make it very unpleasant for others to be with you in the same office. Recruiters may also be allergic to perfumes.

If you come for an interview wearing a hat or sunglasses, take these accessories off immediately after entering the building. Do not leave sunglasses on top of your head. Wear only modest  jewelry. No wide chains or rings on every finger.

Carry the documents you bring to the interview in in a leather briefcase or portfolio. Do not forget to bring a bottle of water so that you can drink while waiting for the interview and writing utensils so you can take notes. And finally a crucial thing - your mobile phone.

Your phone should not ring during the interview. You should not hold the phone in your hand, even while waiting for your turn. Switch it off before entering the building. If you fear you may forget this, stick a colored reminder on the portfolio you carry with you.
