The current era of electronic media could give the mistaken impression that it is enough for recruiters to be able to search the Internet or work with social networks while the traditional creating of individual job seekers' folders have lost its meaning. The fundamentals of recruiters' work has, however, not changed and recruiters therefore still need basic recruitment skills to work with all modern platforms. According to ERE.net, the skills are:
1. Ability to communicate
Recruiters who only sit by computers all day lose contact with real people. Even today, however, they can become good recruiters only then when they know how to make phone calls and communicate with job seekers and their managers face to face.
2. Art of research
The fact that almost everything can be found on the Internet today does not mean that it will be served to you on a silver platter. There is a huge amount of information and a recruiter has to find the most relevant pieces. He must be able to search - both online and offline - and analyze information.
3. Sales skills
When the Internet had not exist yet, a recruiter had to be able to sell jobs very well for people to be willing to e.g. move house. Today, when people can find almost all information about companies and places of work on the Internet, recruiters' sales skills are even more important. They are expected to know more than it is said on the Internet.
4. Art of asking
In an effort to sell, current recruiters often forget to ask. Only announcing candidates - even using the latest technology - that you want them because it will be great for all parties is not enough.
5. Ability to persevere
Preservation is the more important the more complex the time is. For example, a recruiter should be able to make managers think about the candidates who are being recommended to them once again or candidate to make a phone call once again. They should also persistently promote introducing of various types of candidate evaluation to address specific problems.
